The Island of Hawaii is the largest island in the Hawaiian chain with an area twice as big as all the other Hawaiian islands combined, and consequently is known as "The Big Island."
It is a land as diverse as it is large with some of the most unique natural wonders on earth. Mauna Loa, the world's largest active volcano. Kilauea volcano on its southernmost flank has been continuously erupting for several years and daily adds acreage to the island, making the Big Island even bigger. Mauna Kea summit reaches to 13,796 feet or 4,205 meters. When measured from the ocean floor, Mauna Kea is the largest, tallest mountain in the world, taller than Mount Everest!
From snowcapped mountains to lush tropical valleys, white, black and green sand beaches to active volcanoes, breathtaking coastlines to dense tropical jungles, rolling pastures on huge cattle ranches, arid deserts, surreal lava fields and hundreds of magnificent waterfalls.
